When you are a professional blogger, you are never actually away from work. You are constantly looking at the world around you for inspiration, and always have to be aware so that you can cover the latest and greatest gadget releases or world events should they happen while you are out and about. Although life as a blogger means that you have to essentially be one all the time, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to have your laptop with you at all time.

Smartphones are great tools for bloggers, and have several apps that can actually make the writing process easier. So whether you bloggers are using traditional or prepaid phones, these are the apps that you should have to make your life easier:

Evernote

Finding ideas for content is always a little difficult to sometimes keep up on. However, with Evernote you can effectively keep all of your content ideas all in one easy to manage database. See a picture that you think would look great on a later post – put it in Evernote. Come across a website you would like to comment on later – put it in Evernote. It’s literally the best content idea manager available.

Blogger/ WordPress

These apps are obvious, but bloggers should note that both have made several updates before their initial releases. With either, bloggers no longer have to worry about toting around their laptops to meet posting deadlines. Whether you use Blogger or WordPress is a matter of your own opinion, but you should download whichever you prefer so that you can write and post to your blog no matter where you are.

Instagram

There is no doubt that the use of various media forms has become a must for all bloggers. Readers don’t want just straight text anymore, and a great way to liven things up is by putting real-time photos on your blog. With Instagram you can take photos of every day life that would be relevant and ad interest to your blog. No need to worry about editing and posting later either. You can directly link your account to your blog so that you can share in no time which increases your posting and keeps your readership engaged.

With a smartphone blogging on the go is not only possible, but actually easy. You don’t have to worry about finding the right Wi-Fi connection or toting around your potentially expensive laptop. Simply download the apps right for you and your blog, and you will be able to continuously post in no time.

There’s often a lot of confusion around what branding actually is. Most consumers see a soft-drink or computer company as a brand name, but it goes far beyond that. It’s not as easy as doing a simple reverse phone lookup or Google search. Branding yourself is the way you present your image, whether it’s a blog or brick-and-mortar business, to the rest of the world. It’s the reputation, connotations, and image that is given to your venture. Branding is such an essential component in standing out from the crowd. Branding, in essence, is your identity and there are key steps that every business must take in order to effectively communicate their image.

Consistency and Clarity
The first step that you want to take with any business, blog, or otherwise is to always be clear and consistent. If you’re not sure what this means, for example, if you run a blog you want to stick within your niche. If you’re constant moving outside the focus of what you do, it’s going to confuse your readers. You always want to be clear with the message you’re projecting. This can be with anything from the imagery, color, or content. Having a clear focus and asking yourself, “does this fit with what I do” before you click the “post” button is a basic first step to branding yourself.

Logo or Image
Having an identifiable logo or image that stands out is a great way to establish a brand. Remember, this isn’t your brand, but it’s the image that people will associate with your product. Your logo is the first impression and should reflect what message you’re trying to put out there. Put a lot of thought into this and don’t use it simply because it looks cool. If you’re not sure where to start, do some research and see what other blogs are doing. This can give you a good idea from where to start from.

Visibility
These basic principals can work in most any field, but as far as blogs are concerned, you need to keep your visibility high. This could start from the approach of updating your content often, but should eventually translate into increasing your visibility on other sites. This could mean guest-blogging or building a community around your services or advice. The more you engage with online networks, the more they’ll interact with you.

These approaches are the basic building blogs when you’re trying to build your brand. As your blog or business evolves, you’ll want to take a more concentrated and thoughtful approach towards other aspects of your brand but these tips will give you a good starting point. The branding process isn’t quick and easy. It takes a multi-faceted approach that is ever changing, but will always translate into the most effectively delivery system of your image. Take your brand seriously and give it a lot of thought before you put yourself out there.

Being an entrepreneur often requires you to make business decisions quickly and under pressure. Waiting too long to decide can lead to a lost opportunity; however, making quick, uninformed decisions can lead to business disaster. So how do you make an informed decision that promotes success? Although Business Analytics can be helpful, they aren’t always necessary. If you’re not comfortable with hiring an outside firm to help you solve your business problems, consider the following to effectively do so yourself:

Priority
Not every decision your company needs to make needs to be done at the drop of the hat. Sure, there will be times when you must make a split decision, but this will rarely occur. When issues arise that require your action, consider their priority. Don’t immediately rush into a decision on a deal that could wait another two weeks. Take that time to consider every option and perform the necessary research.

Information at Hand
A large percentage of business owners will admit to making large business decisions based off intuition. Could this parallel to a large percentage of businesses failing? You bet. Never make an uninformed decision. All business decisions should be well-researched, and always make sure that you obtain credible and trustworthy research. However, you don’t want to mull over information to the point of analysis paralysis.

Effects
For every reaction there is a reaction. Determine each of the possible effects of the decisions you are considering making, and carefully weigh each options. Could one potentially have a devastating outcome? Could another severely damage employee morale? Even if you may have to make an unpopular decision, you want to make sure that it is one that won’t cripple your business too severely. A setback on occasion can provide greater insight for better leaps forward. Several or severe setbacks can be fatal.
You won’t always make the perfect decision, but if you know how to handle yourself and your business you will hardly make the wrong decision. Running a business is all about being able to evolve and remain level-headed in fast-paced, and often cut-throat, environments. Most online businesses can survive an occasional poor decision, but numerous poor decisions can result in a tarnished online reputation that can keep your business down. Don’t lose your business and investment because of poor decision making. Give yourself adequate time and find the information necessary to come to adequate decisions, and you will increase the likelihood of your business’ success a ten fold.

The honest truth is that Facebook isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for competition. The social network behemoth might have more than 750 million members and counting, but who says people can only belong to one social network? All it takes is for a monopolizer’s weakness to be exploited for an opponent to find success.

Google has designed their own social network, Google+, with all of Facebook’s flaws in mind. The new network is still in its beta phase, but already it can be seen that the search engine masters have devised a social network based on the idea that privacy doesn’t have to be fought for and personal information doesn’t have to be protected. In a world where these things are what drives the modern digital market, that’s a pretty bold move to make.

When it comes to SMO, Google+ might seem like an internet marketing company nightmare. Users are provided ways to divvy up friends into separate lists, wherein information is only relayed among those within the individual group. Settings regarding posts, messages, profile information, and search results are in the user’s control from the get-go, unlike Facebook where members must navigate through several turn styles of options in order to regulate their own privacy.

If Google+ takes off, then the rules regarding SMO might need to be rewritten. It will ultimately depend on how much of Google+ people actually like. In light of Facebook, which profits solely on the manipulation of member data, people might flock to Google+ or at the very least demand that other social networking sites follow Google’s example when it comes to preserving privacy. What does this mean for Facebook? For now, it means playing it safe while you can and arming up for a potential fight.

That’s why just a few weeks ago Facebook announced, atop it’s announcement that they’re joining forces with Skype, that they’re planning on releasing “products” soon, as well as introducing a whole new wave of services on the social network site itself. They not only want to distract people away from the heavy emphasis on privacy that plagues any news story on Facebook, but they want to make the right moves early on to constantly stay one step ahead of any and all competition.

What does all this mean for internet marketers who specialize in social media optimization? Nothing in the immediate future, but storm clouds are definitely on the horizon. Sit tight in the mean time and keep doing what you do, but keep in mind that the rules might change soon. In this business, that’s something you’re going to have to get used to.
