Never Eat Alone – Start Connecting!

I am reviewing the book, Never Eat Alone, written by Keith Ferrazzi in this post. I find the book sums up the importance and also teaches several very important techniques on connecting with people. In addition, I find most techniques are relevant to Internet Entrepreneurs :)

Keith Ferrazzi is the founder and CEO of Ferrrazzi Greenlight, a marketing and sales consulting company. Both Forbes and Inc. magazines have designated Keith Ferrazzi as one of the world’s most “connected” individuals. He distinguishes relationship-building from the crude, desperate glad-handing usually associated with networking.

To me, building relationships is everything especially if you are going into Internet Entrepreneurship. It is definitely much easier and efficient to achieve business success knowing people that holds the authority or popularity in your industry. Keith has highlighted more than 10 skills on how to connect with people effectively in this book.

Of all the skills illustrated in the book, I find that the chapters on Follow up or Fail, Connecting with Connectors and The Art of Small Talk are the most valuable takeaway for me.

Keith suggested to make follow-up a habit so as it seems automatic. The follow-up can be as simple as a hand written thank-you note expressing your gratitude.

Small Talk is another essential skill for anyone, regardless of your occupation. Keith touches a few points in the book such as being sincere, developing the conversational currency, graceful exit and learning to listen.

The following groups of professionals are known as connectors that you must get to know from Keith’s perspective:

  • Restaurateurs
  • Headhunters
  • Lobbyists
  • Fundraisers
  • Public Relations People
  • Politicians
  • Journalists

The last section of the book is equally valuable as Keith mentions several basics that one needs to acquire. One of the most important topic is Be Interesting. You really need to talk and do things that interest people. Keith also listed a few ways on how to became an interesting person in the book.

A highly recommended book for everyone :D
