Domain Name Scams
One of the forum members has identified a scammer trying to sell a domain name that does not belongs to him recently.
Known as ilter, this person tries to sell the domain name, FUSED.COM in DigitalPoint and eBay. However, potential buyers did a search and found out that this domain name does not belongs to the thread creator.
How to prevent being scammed when buying domain names?
The simplest way is to use an escrow service. This means that your money only reaches the seller (through a third party) once you receive the goods, which is the domain name in this case. This step is essential especially if you are dealing with a huge transaction.
The only way is to have the seller of the domain name sets the DNS to point to a particular nameserver stated by you to prove that the seller has control over the domain. However, this step is troublesome and most sellers will not do it for a $20 domain name.
You are also advised to check out the domain name details using WHOIS.net.
