Speak To Win

No matter what you do or where you are, how you speak matters a lot. It is said that most people will forget what you said but many will remember how you say it. If you are looking for ways to improve on your speaking skills, you should get yourself a copy of Brian Tracy’s new book – Speak To Win, How to present with POWER in any situation.

Preparation is the key

Brian stresses a lot on preparation before any presentation. There is nothing call over-prepare. A person who prepares for what he speaks will radiate confidence in his speech and appear much more powerful than one who doesn’t. This not only applies to the speaker, but also to people who attend meetings.

Mastering meetings with small groups

Brian dedicates a complete chapter teaching how we could make meetings more controllable even if you are not the one leading the discussion. It may amazes you if you read that Brian actually chooses a seat that presents authority before any meeting. This concept is similar to Chinese Feng Shui that I have came across sometime ago.

I am totally convinced by the fact when he says that the first five minutes of the meeting will reveal who dominate the meeting thereafter. Normally, people dominating the meeting are the one who speak up within the first five minutes.

How to impress large audiences

My favorite chapter is on how to impress large audiences. Brian illustrates a lot of pointers on how to present our topic in front of large audiences. Some of the techniques include activation of both side of brains to ‘pull’ the audience, power of three and how he ends a presentation. He also touches on the details of how you could take over the stage from the Introducer and how important it is to network with other speakers and organiser as well.

Brian Tracy has written a lot of books on self improvement and sales. The reason why I read his book is because he goes into specifics of several concepts and is useful in our everyday life. Of course, the only way to improve our speaking is not by reading Brian’s book :) It is to practice, practice and practice.

How this relate to Internet Marketing

In my opinion, speaking is just as important if you are into Internet Marketing. If you ever noticed, most successful Internet Marketers do not hide themselves or shy away from crowd. Instead, they come out and network to meet more people. This is where you can impress more people.

You can have a mess up website but if you are a great speaker, people will remember and eventually convert to your customers. However, if you screw up in every network session, nobody will bother taking a look at the stuff you promote.. Nevertheless, everyone has to start somewhere :)
