Winning the Adsense Game

There have been news over the last few months on Adsense Publishers getting lower payouts and many Webmasters are also discussing this issue all over the forums. If you are like the most of the publishers, perhaps you would have experience a decrease in your Adsense earnings as well.

Despite all the changes Google has announced (smart pricing, reduce of clickable area etc), principles for us to win this game still stay the same - attract relevant traffic to our targeted keyword page. I can’t stress how important this concept is because I have seen too many Webmasters launching sites with only Adsense in mind but didn’t want to spend effort doing some keyword research.

Visitors who clicks on your Adsense Ads

This has been stated a lot of time all over Internet that the best converting traffic type for Adsense is Search Engine traffic. People comes to your site looking for something and if they find the any contextual links that they want to know more about, they click and go. And you earn. The only way to increase your search engine traffic is to optimize your page for the search engines. You can do so by optimizing your titles, headers, keyword density and internal linking structure. Forget about converting your regular visitors to click on your Adsense advertisement, convert them for your own products

But wait.. what keywords are you talking about

Google sees every page as a description on something / somebody. This is how they choose and display the advertisement to your visitors. Imagine if you have a page about healthy lifestyle, business marketing and fishing, how would you expect Google to display consistent relevant ads in your page? And imagine if you have a page purely on Blackhat Adsense techniques, will there be any advertisement for you to display?

Keywords are important in the sense that you must target one or two keywords per page, and making sure that they are not overly competitive (more than 10 million results in Google). I find great results when I target keywords under 2 million.

Utilizing the 80/20 rule to increase your Search Engine Traffic

It is not surprising coming to a point that you don’t know what to do to increase your traffic especially working on many tasks like directory submission, article submission, social bookmarking, blog commenting and link exchange. My advice here is to work on the the top 20% that will bring you 80% of the results. The following is a secret that I have been using for some of my simple sites that to boost up their Adsense revenue in a short time (after you have optimized your site for your keywords):

1. Submit to top directories (PR5 or above) - limit to 10 directories and move on [one-time].
2. Comment on blogs with your keywords - start with 100 blogs, alternate with your internal pages [Every two to three months].
3. Submit to top social bookmarking sites [one-time].
4. Submit articles to directories (PR4 or above) every 2 weeks.
5. Post in forums with your signature linking to your sites [Daily].

There are reasons in every steps above but I will leave that for you to figure out For example, article submission every two weeks will make sure that you have fresh inbound links and helps to stabilize your Search Engine Rankings Position (SERP). This is the most common mistake why many Webmasters find that their sites fluctuate a lot in SERP. Another thing to note is that you do not have to do all the above by yourself especially after you have done it for a couple of times.. just outsource it and focus your time on income generating tasks.

Advanced techniques
