Google Knows When You Are Stuffing Keywords
Matt Cutts from Google is talking about keywords stuffing again in his blog lately. For some veterans, you may be surprised that there are actually new sites that are employing this old technique as we write.
What is keywords stuffing?
In short, keywords stuffing is done by putting massive keywords onto a web page that contributes to no value overall. This can be done by making the words very small in the footer or styling the font color the same as the background. It does not matter if you are stuffing relevant or irrelevant keywords, Google will penalize web pages that try to boost up a certain keyword density unnaturally.
Is my page stuffed with keywords?
Most probably if you are the designer and coder of your own site, you will know this answer already. However, some Webmasters outsource their web development and design to other parties especially the unethical Search Engine Optimizers. This is where we should be careful. To help and detect unintentional keywords stuffing, you can go to SEOChat - Keyword Density and input any URL that you want to check.
This tool will show you a list of keywords and the overall percentage. If you see a keyword density that is exceptionally high, it may spell trouble. The next question you might asked is how do I know what is the limit. The answer is very simple, try to read your content and see if it makes sense
Another good alternative is to check the top three pages of the targeted keyword in Google and check out their density level. This will serve as a good upper limit for your page(s).
