Thinking for a change
Many people know that the way we think is important and affect greatly in the way we work. However, there are few who really know how to control and think for better results. John C. Maxwell has written a book, Thinking for a change that illustrates how effective thinking can help us to achieve excellent results.
In this book, John shares with us 11 kinds of effective thinking. The following are some of the thinking skills:
Focused Thinking
Most of the time, we do not allocate enough time for an item in order to achieve better result. A very good example of focused thinking is when we are children who used to draw pictures using crayons. Most of us may remember the smell of the crayons, some may still even recall clearly the image of the crayon box, design etc. This is the power of focused thinking.
A good idea can become a great idea when it is given focus time.
Creative Thinking
Creative thinking is extremely powerful and critical, especially for leaders. Some questions that we can ask ourselves to solve a problem creatively are:
- Why do we do it this way?
- Why is it important?
- What would happen if we don’t do it at all?
You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have. - Maya Angelou
Some other methods includes possibility thinking, shared thinking, reflective thinking and realistic thinking. This book is highly recommended and should be read at least once by everybody ![]()
