Where are all my links?

After a certain amount of time managing website(s), you may wonder how can we actually know which are the sites that has been linking to our sites. It is sometimes very interesting to find people talking or recommending our websites to other people. Hence, I always check my backlinks on the web.

The most used method is to check your backlinks in Yahoo. For example, you can key in the following query in Yahoo search box and it will return the pages that link to KC Hut:

link:www.kchut.com

You may ask, why Yahoo? The reason is that Google’s link: operator does not returns all the results. Therefore, most Webmasters use Yahoo to check the backlinks. However, Google has recently introduced another section in the Webmaster Tools to show the webmasters a more complete set of backlinks. This section can be accessed from your Google Sitemap account.

What if I need to know more about my backlinks?

Its a pity that the above methods do not reveal much information about the pages that contains the backlinks to your site. Fortunately, there are third party tools that we can use to capture more information. A pretty useful backlink checker is the Backlink Watch. This powerful tool can list down your backlinks with the respective page’s PR and outbound links. With this tool, Webmasters can easily get an overview of their backlinks status. The generation of the backlinks do take a while especially if your site has tons of backlinks. Try it out and you will like it :D
