Why Search Engine Optimization is Important
Optimizing a site should be one of our primary concern when creating a new site. A top ten listing in Google can easily receives 100 to 1000 clicks per day depending on the niche. Most webmasters rely on the search engine traffic for conversion of their services or products. Just imagine a conversion rate of 1 to 2% of the daily traffic (just from the search engine alone) 
To start learning SEO, it is highly recommended to read Google Webmaster Guidelines for a basic understanding. After understanding the basics, try to participate in the online discussion forums like DigitalPoint to learn from other webmasters’ experiences. To conclude, Google focus on quality inbound links. Thus, to achieve good SERP (Search Engine Result Page), we will need a high quality of incoming links to our pages. This is the reason why Google encourages Link Bait. I will talk more about link baiting in near future also.
